Start your own IW site and event at your organisation
Need ideas to get user buy-in?
Try creating a special site specifically about SharePoint in your organisation. Call it a user group / community of practice / portal, depending on the terminology used in your organisation. Things I have on mine are :

I publish everything to this site and send weekly newsletter to all my site owners with links to this site when necessary. It is a great way to have one point of truth for all things SharePoint in your organisation so when people need more info, you can just send them a link till you can get to them in person.
What I also did, was start a forum similar to IW which I called the SAKS Forum. I demo web parts and latest ideas to my user base. I host them them around once every 6 weeks or so. This has gone a long way in getting buy in from my users. I now have a big base of power users that have become SharePoint champions on my behalf.
